Frequently Asked Questions
Any session is best booked 4-6 weeks in advance to provide enough time for me to prepare for your session. However, cake smashes and newborn sessions are a bit different. Cake smashes are best booked at least 3 months in advance. Once again, this will allow me enough time to prepare what might be needed for your custom set that coordinates with your birthday theme. Newborn session are best booked in the second trimester of pregnancy. Newborn sessions are done between 7-15 days of birth, and often if you wait until the baby is here, I am not able to fit you in my schedule. All sessions require a deposit to secure your session date. No session is considered booked until the deposit had been made. Since babies come on their own schedule, the deposit holds your due date. Once the baby arrives, you contact me, and we set up the session between 7-15 days later.
We can definitely get images of your baby at 2-3 moths old. However, they are not going to be those cute, curled up sleeping images that you see in my newborn images. The baby is much to alert and will not easily fold into those positions once older. Since newborn stage is so fleeting, we want to capture it early, when they will look so tiny asleep in your arms. If you miss this stage, the next milestone I would recommend is the sitter session. This session is done when the baby can sit up completely unassisted around 6-8 months of age. This stage allows them to sit without the assistance of props to hold them up. They also have great facial expressions for the camera at this stage as well.
I do not travel to homes for newborn sessions. The sessions take place in my home studio in West Caldwell, New Jersey. I have such a wide variety of wraps, backdrops, props etc. for newborns that I could not possibly take it all with me. I want my clients to have everything possible that they may want to use doing a session right at their fingertips.
I do not shoot weddings or events held at Venus such as communions, Sweet 16’s etc. However, I do travel to dance studios for dance images, schools for fall/spring images or graduations, and I photographed schools daddy/daughter dances. These are not candids of everyone dancing. These are professional images shot with a backdrop to match the theme and professional lighting. It is the same for dance images. These are not action shots during the recital. They are done prior to the event with a backdrop and lighting.
